Eataly NYC
Eataly is the last new concept of Mario Battali and some other partners. It's really an unbelievable huge concept!!!
the philosophy of Eataly is :
"Eataly is MORE than a supermarket with restaurants. It is an energetic marketplace, an opportunity totaste and take home the products of artisans who till, knead and press to bring you the highest quality products at fair price. We have assembled the absolute best Italian producers from every region under one roof and the absolute best chefs to cook their wares; Eataly is the heartbeat of Italy. We want to challenge the idea that quality products are accessible only to a select few. We’ve done it in Italy:Torino, Bologna, Milano, Pinnerolo, Asti and Japan: Tokyo, Daikanyama, Mitsukoshi & Gransta, now it’s time to take New York. Our new New York address does not mean we are only about importing. Our bread is made with New York flour, our gelato is whipped up with local dairy and our meat, produce and fish are almost always American. Grazie, America!"
It's situated on 5th avenue in front of the flatrion building. the place is really huge, so huge that you need a map to get into it.
There are many restaurants, corners, coffee... but only one restaurant where you can book a table "Manzo"
I've got a booking with the help of the concierge of my hotel at Manzo, a kind of italian steackhouse.
inside is like a brasserie with italian products
I asked for a diet coke but Manzo and Eataly are so italian that they serve only italian products and the only soda they have is the Gus, Italian natural coke
Grrrr.... really not good... drink italian water much better...
I ordered a vitello tonato as starter that was really excellent, simplly presented but really tasty.
I tried also the pan fried sweetbread with mushrooms, amazing...
then I was not on a meat Mood so I had as main dish pasta with white truffles, excellent...the white truffles was of very good quality and taste, the pasta Al dente just as I like, enough butter, enough parmagiano, no cream.
I was really surprised with the quantity of truffles that the chef was putting over the pasta on the table...
but not surprised anymore after looking at the bill, 130 dollars the pasta....
my friends tried the T-bone. they asked it blue.
the meat was so so and forget about blue... it was more than medium...
I asked for a gratineted tomatoe polenta to try..... and it was not really good ...
I did not try any dessert, pasta and dessert not possible at all for diet reasons.....
after lunch I visited the shop, crowded to die but really impressive.
the bread shop
everything is open space so that you can have a look to the preparation process
the pasta shop
making the pasta by Micheli's
and a real nice place is the mozza place,
and the man making the mozza balls, step 1
step 2
the pizza corner with its wood oven is nice too.
do I recommand to visit Eataly? yes absolutelly
do I recommand to eat at eataly? yes, I peronnally will go back to try pizza, mozza, Gelato and many other things that looks really nice.
when to visit? if you like crowded place you can visit after or before lunch....
avoid lunch time and week ends if you go banana with crowded places, and if you don't like to queue everywhere, at the entrance, to order, to pay....
